New Cast

Had a trip to the doctor today. He took off the old plaster open cast, cleaned my leg and put on a nice lighter weight fiberglass cast.

The wound was a bit more graphic than I had imagined. I was expecting some nice tidy sutures and instead got frankenfoot. I also got another 20 days worth of blood thinners. I have to inject myself every morning (not fun), it's kinda painful and each injection leaves a bruise on my belly. I'm trying to make a pleasing pattern of bruises.

An Update

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the kind words and support. I finally made it into cycling news, http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=news/2007/dec07/dec29news scroll down, I'm near the bottom. Not sure what happened on those quotes but I think they went from English to Flemish and back to English. I'll be in a cast for a while and on the bike outside in about three months. My current cast is a heavy old fashioned plaster cast, I'll be requesting a lightweight space age material for the next one. My crutch skills are improving, I made it up the steps without dabbing today. Going down the steps I'm still on the butt slide program. Does anyone know a good PT in the North Bay? Someone that might be willing to trade? I'll try to keep everyone up to date on my progress and there will be a few more cyclingnew.com diaries coming out.

take care,

Barb

Surgery, ouch.

I got an email from barb and she's back from the hospital. She's feeling pretty crummy, but the surgery went well. She will have a cast for at least 2 weeks. I will get to talk with her tomorrow, but she is planning to stay till Jan.3 as planned rather than spend a bunch of money to get an earlier flight. She has a good support crew over there so I think she's in good hands. Thanks for the kind words- j

Really bad time for Barb at the world cup....

Barb ruptured her achilles tendon today while racing at the Hofstade world cup race in Belgium.

She had surgery earlier today and I'm still waiting to hear from her. I will post here as I know more.
